Good Reads

This has been a long-time coming…to say the least!

I got Barack Obama’s, Promised Land, as a Christmas present and was so excited to dive right in. I knew this book would not be a carefree read and it’s sheer length (over 700 pages!) would take me some time. So, I began the journey…

Promised Land is an excellent account of all the major events leading up to Obama’s presidency and through the assassination of Osama bin Laden. Even 700 pages could not cover all 8 years of the Obama presidency!

As a history teacher, I loved this book. It is a wonderful resource to be able to reference different historical moments and legislation. I liked reading the backstory of the dealings both in the White House and overseas- it was a very well written historical reference book.

What I loved most were the small tidbits about Obama’s personal life like when he would watch his daughters in the East Wing and when Bo, their family dog, was first introduced. These accounts seemed heartfelt- and I loved it.

This isn’t a book for everyone. It’s a real time commitment and it can be dense at moments. But, if you want to understand the inner workings of the Obama presidency- I highly recommend it!
