I have always thought the CIA was fascinating. Being a spy, going to foreign nations, defending freedom… it could have been an awesome alternative life for this high school history teacher!
A few months ago Greg and I listened to a podcast that interviewed former CIA director, John Brennan, and my fascination with the CIA was re-ignited. Brennan was CIA director under Obama, after a long career within the CIA as well as other governmental agencies. He recently retired with the election of Trump and has slowly transitioned to civilian life. Part of his transition included writing his memoir about his time working for the government and after listening to the podcast both Greg and I were eager to read it.
Undaunted is a great read. Brennan has a very conversational tone within his writing and he does a wonderful job of relating complex events to the reader in an easy-to-understand way. His chapter on the capture of Osama bin Laden was so well written- it kept me on the edge of my seat (even though I knew the outcome!)
John Brennan’s recap of his time in government service is a great read for anyone who wants to take an alternative look at modern history.
