Project: Pantry Organization

Moving into our new house, I was blessed with the biggest pantry that I have ever had. While not a walk-in pantry, it is a cavernous closet with lots of shelf space. I knew I wanted to organize the hell out of it and make it the pantry of my dreams, so I studied lots of pantries that I loved online and came up, with what I think, is a pretty remarkable space!

Contact paper: The shelves were freshly painted when we moved in, but within weeks they were scuffed with wear. I knew contact paper was a must, so I found this super cute peel-and-stick on Amazon. It was so easy to install and it wipes clean in no time!

Storage shelves: I had these flimsy shelves that were super narrow before, so I was looking for a shelf that could hold plenty and pretty much double by shelf space. I ended up purchasing two sets of these shelves off Amazon and love them. They are crazy deep and you can configure them in a number of different ways. Plus, the style matches of farmhouse décor and they are super cute.

Jars: I love to keep things like nuts and dried fruits out of messy-looking plastic bags and instead store them in Mason jars. I have a plethora of Mason jars on hand, so I didn’t end up having to purchase any of them for the pantry re-do. In order to make things more streamlined (and easier for my family to identify!) I simply took some craft paper I had and made matching lids for all the jars. I made some extra blank ones while I was at it, in case I decide the switch out the contents of the jars from time-to-time.

Food Storage: This was a tough choice! There are so many options when it comes to food storage containers and I was a bit overwhelmed when looking at all the options. I finally decided to go with a mix of Oxo Pop Containers and Made By Design plastic food storage from Target. While the Oxo containers were my number one choice, they proved to be a bit cost prohibitive for the entire pantry. The Made by Design containers were about half the cost of the Oxo containers and they worked well both aesthetically and size-wise together. I wanted to get square containers instead of round containers because it maximized the space in the pantry. I then used some old chalkboard labels ( I don’t have the link but you can easily find them on Amazon – I’m sure!) to label what is in each container.

Spices: Although technically it is not in my pantry, I also tackled my spice drawer at the same time. I was sick of the different sized and shaped spice containers and wanted to streamline the drawer to maximize space and just make it pretty. I found this incredible spice jar kit on Amazon and it is incredible! I love having all my spices in matching jars and with matching labels!

So, now you have seen my most satisfying summer clean-out this year! My family knows that if they dare mess it up – they WILL be excommunicated, so they have been pretty good about putting things back where they belong! I get so much joy every time I open the pantry – it’s a bit ridiculous!
