Honey and Bourbon are a winning combination. Well, I guess maple and Bourbon are too… I guess Bourbon and pretty much everything are pretty damn good together! I think that Bourbon is definitely having its moment in the spotlight, and I find it popping up in a lot of different recipes and on menus. Looking for a new twist on chicken, I came across this recipe and knew I had to give it a try.

I was first drawn to the oven-fried chicken part of the recipe. I am always on the lookout for a perfect oven-fried chicken recipe. I love the crispy exterior of fried chicken but I HATE the mess that comes with actually frying chicken!!! This chicken was the crispiest of the oven-fried chicken recipes that I have ever tried. No joke! The mix of corn flakes and panko -not to mention the plethora of spices- made the chicken crisp and flavorful. Even if you don’t make the sauce, this chicken recipe is gold!!!

But the sauce…. the sauce was so amazing!!! After a bit of a kitchen fire (yeah, the sauce bubbles up really quickly on the stove and then the bourbon you know… catches fire!) the sauce came together with very little effort. I cut the tabasco from my sauce, which made it more sweet and not spicy at all. If you wanted to do more of a “hot” honey sauce, I would encourage you to put in as much tabasco as you can stand! Personally, I would have liked a bit more heat to the sauce, it would have been an awesome contrast to the sweet. But… picky eaters!
I served the chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans and felt very Southern! It made for a fantastic dinner that I will be making again and again.
