Burgers with Bacon Jam

Literally, I have no words for this beautiful concoction that is bacon jam. How have I lived 40 years of my life- and thousands of burgers consumed- without this cacophony of perfect tastes melding together? It’s a sad state of affairs…but it’s one that I will remedy from this point forward. Hear me out: no burger will be consumed in my house without bacon jam!

My journey to my current enlightened state all began with the March 2021 issue of Sunset Magazine and their article on Five Mary’s Farm and the recipe for the 5M Burger with Bacon Jam. This burger just looked so good on the pages of the magazine that I knew I had to recreate it in my own home. After a long day teaching, it was on a random Tuesday and I declared this was the day.

I started early on my journey to dinner- and I’m glad I did. Although bacon jam isn’t difficult to make, it does take some time. It’s a good thing the recipe calls for a 1/2 cup of beer…because someone had to finish off the beer…and it was a perfect way to pass the time!

Once the bacon jam was complete and cooking, I whipped up the Dijon aioli spread for the burgers and got my condiments in place. I usually keep some pickled red onion on hand- so that was easy, and then I cut up some avocado because we live in California and that’s what Californians do! Paired with a sharp white cheddar- it was a perfect trio!

Words cannot do justice to the deliciousness that was this burger. All of the flavors work so well together and the flavor of bacon permeates each bite…it is amazing! I am thrilled to say that this is the best burger that I personally have ever made, and I can’t wait to make it again! Give it a try- you cannot be disappointed!!!

  1. I can’t wait to try this. One of my coworkers makes it and I compared his recipe with yours. It is very similar. He has always talked about how great it is.
