Good Reads

I was scrolling through my Libby library app looking for my next read and I stumbled upon The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory and decided to give it a try. The number one factor in me choosing this book? It was true fact it was a Reese Witherspoon Book Club pick! I have had some pretty good luck with books picked by Reese so there was no dispute that this one was going to be next.

The Proposal is a cute read. Light, predictable storyline, and implausible lives of the characters makes it a book that is a quickly consumed and rather enjoyable, but won’t make you delve deep into any feelings or emotions while reading. For example, Nik- the main character- is a writer in LA who lives in a fabulous apartment, works whenever she feels like it, and always has the time and money for cute outfits, unlimited booze, and eating out with her friends. Oh- and her friends own a cupcake shop and the other is an actress. It’s a nice fantasy, but let’s be honest, I don’t know anyone with this reality!

The Proposal is a great getaway for a thoughtless read and I think I finished it within a few hours. Not necessarily a bad thing when we are all dealing with so much heaviness…
